Ministering to Catholic Youth in the Chicago Archdiocese Through the Scouting Program

The Chicago Catholic Committee is a proud recipient of the 2023 Quality Dioceses Award.

Catholic Scouts, Scouters and family members have the opportunity to participate in a limited time program and earn patches! In conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops the National Catholic Committee on Scouting is offering the Eucharistic Revival Activity Program.

“The National Eucharistic Revival is a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery here in the United States by helping us renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.” – From the National Eucharistic Revival website

The National Eucharistic Revival pilgrimage is traveling through the Archdiocese of Chicago June 26-30, 2024. Click here for more information. Expand the “Also of interest…” section for a complete schedule of events.

Scouting in the Catholic Church

July 14-20, 2024

Philmont Training Center, Cimarron, New Mexico

This course is an opportunity for participants to strengthen their faith and to see more clearly the connection and interaction between the Catholic faith and the programs of the Boy Scouts of America.  Designed for any adult interested in using Scouting to help support Catholic youth ministry in a Catholic chartered unit or other unit, this conference is especially appropriate for Scout chaplains, clergy, diocesan or parish youth ministers, and council, diocesan, regional and national Catholic committee leadership and members.

The goals of the conference are to help participants understand how Scouting is Catholic youth ministry, gain knowledge about Catholic Scouting resources, and use the information in the course to promote Catholic Scouting in their home dioceses and councils.  All this happens in a context of learning, fellowship and fun!

The conference includes four daily components:

  1. Deeping one’s faith in Christ through scripture, reflection, and sharing as set forth in the NCCS National Catholic Leadership Development training program;
  2. Understanding youth ministry through the USCCB’s Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry and applying this to a Scouting context;
  3. Reviewing relevant sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church; and
  4. Discussing how best to deliver the mission and programs of the NCCS.

During the course, participant will meet and interact with the current bishop liaison to the NCCS and Scouts just completing the St. George Trek.  (Find additional information on the National Catholic Committee on Scouting’s website.)
